“Gold Dome Pilgrimage”

“Gold Dome Pilgrimage” is the first in a series of art created to celebrate the heritage of Homesteaders Life Company. The series will be permanently displayed at the company’s home office in West Des Moines, Iowa.

Left: The base image for this work is a photograph taken on the steps of the Iowa State Capital during an early convention of Homesteaders, circa 1916. Founded as a fraternal association, the Homesteaders were people who came together in the spirit of “neighborly cooperation, fraternity, mutual helpfulness, protection and patriotism.”

Ken Haas, Media Designer at Homesteaders Life Company, used digital techniques and an abundance of creative freedom to add texture and layers of imagery representing the pioneering culture that existed when Iowa was the gateway to the American West.
